Thoughts On My Top 10 Robert Redford Movies
He died on September 16 at the age of 89 - certainly what my husband would call "a good run" but I'm sure he would have loved a few more good, productive years.
For no particular reason, I put together a list of my 10 favorite movies that he starred in. This does NOT include the awesome Ordinary People (1980), which he directed but did not act in.
1. All The President's Men (1976), for all the obvious reasons.
2. The Candidate (1972), the came out the year my dad ran for Congress, so it really struck a chord with me.
3. The Sting (1973), with the equally awesome Paul Newman.
4. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969), of course.
5. Three Days of the Condor (1975), I love spy movies & spies who are more than what they seem.
6. Barefoot in the Park (1967), with Jane Fonda - love this. My parents saw Redford in this on Broadway in 1963 (with Elizabeth Ashley as the female lead), and then he was at the same diner as them after the play. That in itself is enough reason to love it.
7. The Way We Were (1973), with Barbra Streisand. You could tell from the beginning that the couple wouldn't work out but rooted for them anyway.
8. Downhill Racer (1969), I love this more than any non-skier should.
9. The Last Castle (2001), there should have been more movies with Redford & James Gandolfini... I'm just saying...
10. Spy Game (2001), did I mention that I like spy movies? 🙂
And a special Honorable Mention goes to Our Souls at Night (2017), with Jane Fonda because the late and wonderful Phyllis Somerville is in it.
